SELOUS IMPALA CAMP - SELOUS GAME RESERVE - TANZANIA

Selous Impala Camp has a location so extraordinary that there is little incentive to go elsewhere for safari action. The camp was constructed on the banks of the Rufiji River this stylish yet relaxed tented camp offers the discerning traveler the finest setting for a memorable holiday. The camp offers a breezy lounge and dining area which sits on spacious wooden decking and is open to the spectacular views across the river. It is a wonderful place to sit and watch game come down to the water to drink. There are plenty of lounge chairs, all made of solid carved wood with woven seats and backs made of natural fiber. There are little touches of African art dotted around, giving the central area a homely feel.

Location
Selous Impala Camp is situated on a wooded stretch of the stunning Rufiji River.

Accommodation
The camp has 8 private Meru-style tents which are raised high up on wooden platforms. Each tent focuses on the ever-changing view across the mighty river, and is furnished in an African style with large beds and an en-suite bathroom. Each tent has a verandah which overlooks the river. The tents are spaced well apart giving seclusion and privacy. When walking to and from your room at night you are escorted by Maasai guards as the camp is not fenced and wildlife does occasionally pass through. There is one family tent.

Dining
The dining room is on a raised platform for optimum views of Africa’s greatest show. There is splendid food and a well stocked bar to complement the experience. Bush breakfasts and fine picnics are popularly combined with boating and walking safaris, followed by a cool swim in the clear blue pool.

Bar
The bar area is located across a short walkway to the right of the dining area. Bar stools stand against a small bar made from an old ‘mokoro’ (traditional fishing boat) whilst a few comfortable sofas with beautiful rustic-colored cushions line the edge. Enjoy an evening drink around the camp fire whilst relaxing on canvas directors chairs.

Activities
Guests can take an all-day game drive with picnic, or a walking safari in the morning and boat safari in the evening (or vice versa) or a morning game drive followed by lunch in camp, a short nap in the heat of the day and an evening game drive. Flexibility is key. Game drives are in open sided 4WD's. You can also head out onto the river for some fishing, and the more adventurous might try a night or two fly-camping in bush. You will always be accompanied by a camp guide who has good knowledge of the game found in the area. For some relaxation between safari activities, guests can enjoy a swim in the pool whilst looking out over the river.
