The lodge is flanked by a fresh water lagoon abutting onto a coastal forest, which spills to the edge of the unspoilt and undeveloped beach. Accommodation Accommodation is in nine spacious, delightful cottages constructed of natural, local materials that harmonize perfectly with the wonderful surroundings. Ethnic furnishings impart a sense of the Tanzanian coast's rich cultural heritage. Each cottage has its own en suite bathroom and large veranda with views of the azure ocean. On top of the hill stand four suites and a family unit all with stunning views.

Sea / Swimming The beach at Ras Kutani stretches out to open water and thus is not affected by the shallow reef tides of other areas. This of course makes for great swimming at all times. During the full and no moon periods (2-3 days either side), the high tide water can be pretty rough limiting swimming to strong swimmers only. The water temperatures are pleasant at all times of the year. During September whales migrate south and can be seen in the distance from Ras Kutani. Season From June to August temperatures are very pleasant to warm during the day and only slightly cool in the evenings. (A wrap over the shoulder in the evening and cotton blanket on the bed are more than sufficient). From September to November, temperatures pick up and depending on the season each year the 'short rains' can come any time late October/early November. These rains are unlikely to spoil any holiday with only occasional showers - the majority of which fall during the night. There may be the odd day's full rain but, it is not common. Day time temperatures are a little restrictive for activities such as village and forest walks - these can only be done in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the higher midday temperatures. From mid-December the winds pick up which provides a pleasant cooling of the increasing temperatures. The Kaskazi (North wind) prevails from late December and consistently keeps Ras Kutani a few degrees cooler than Dar es Salaam. By March the humidity has built up in preparation for the rainy season ahead. Snorkeling Snorkeling can be done from the shore only. There is a small coral hedge with an 80+ year old wreck boat, 200 meters from the Ras Kutani beach. It is open water so the visibility is not 100%. Tips Tipping is left to the guest discretion. If one would like to reward the staff it is recommended that you leave something at the tip box at the reception. All tips are divided amongst all staff equally, many of whom guests do not see during their stay. As a guideline it is suggested that a tip of USD 10 per guest per day. Turtles The beach around Ras Kutani has always been used by turtles for nesting. The nests hatch between August and March.
