Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is the only lodge within Lake Manyara National Park. The towering escarpment of the Great Rift Valley is a breathtaking backdrop. The privacy of the location ensures near exclusivity of game drives in the southern section of Lake Manyara National Park. The Park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, and 350 species of birds make for good bird watching, thus offering a great diversity of habitats. Open 4x4 safari vehicles are available. Sundowners and lakeshore picnics too. Location In the remote southern end of Lake Manyara National Park, northern Tanzania, &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is the only lodge in the Park. Here the Great Rift Valley is at its most impressive, with the Escarpment dropping some 500 meters (1640 feet) down to the flamingo-rimmed shore of the lake. Access A number of scheduled airline services operate a twice-daily scheduled flight from Arusha Airport and Coastal Air operates daily flights from Dar Es Salaam – both to Lake Manyara airstrip, followed by a scenic 21/2 hour leisurely game drive to the lodge through the National Park. Accommodation Ten elegant stilted tree houses are cradled in the boughs of mahogany trees, ensuring privacy for all guests. Built of timber and ‘makuti’ (palm fronds), the interiors are bleached, earthy and stylishly understated. Rooms are spacious with sitting areas and viewing decks. Each room has en suite bathrooms with a bath, outdoor shower, twin hand basins and private w.c.
Guest Areas Guest areas are intimate and stylish, and feature an interactive kitchen. The sitting and dining areas overlook a charming forest ‘boma’ lined with ‘ngalawas’ (dugout canoes). The Lodge has a Safari Shop featuring signature community craftwork and a range of lodge branded safari clothing. Activities Morning and afternoon game-drives in open safari vehicles in Lake Manyara National Park, excellent bird watching and picnics at scenic picnic sites overlooking the Lake. Night game drives are also available.
Weather: Warm to hot climate year round due to proximity to the equator Rainfall: April/May and November. Temperature: Minimum 15˚C/59˚F, maximum 40˚C/104˚F.
Best time to travel: All year round, best game-viewing August to September & December to February. Airstrip: Lake Manyara airstrip is registered. Children: Children are welcome. Travel to Tanzania is recommended for children 8 years and older. Regretfully, children 5 years and younger cannot participate in the regular game-drives. Child minders can be booked at an additional cost. Children aged 6 to 11 years are accommodated on game-drives at the lodge manager’s discretion.
