Kirurumu Tented Lodge is a quaint lodge set high on the edge of the Great Rift Valley on the Gregorian Escarpment, enjoying a marvelous, uplifting and panoramic view eastward over Lake Manyara, the Rift floor and Mt. Losimingori. Behind Kirurumu, the Ngorongoro Highlands rise in green and fertile splendor and form the gateway to Ngorongoro Crater and, finally, Olduvai Gorge, and the Serengeti. ‘Kirurumu’ takes its name from a Bantu word meaning ‘echoing waters’, which describes the sound of the river that runs nearby.

Accommodation
Kirurumu has a total of 22 rooms made up of the following tents and suites:
* Twins (used also as singles) x 12

* Triple family rooms x 4

* Honeymoon suite x 1
The permanent tented rooms built onto a stilted wooden base, designed to give each a private bush enclosure with its own undisturbed view. Accommodation is in large walk-in tents, built under thatched structures with good-sized wooden verandas to the front. Wonderfully hot and powerful showers with solar-heated spring water in every tent make it hard to fault.There are some new tents being built at the moment, which promise to be excellent, with breathtaking views, set into the edge of the rift, and with staggering views into the Kirurumu river gorge.
Dining & Bar
The open-sided dining room and naturally sanded wood and rock-enclosed bar also make the most of the location, and food and service are excellent. Dining room offers waiter service. Meals rely heavily on fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs from their own organic garden, and are greatly enhanced by a selection of fine wines from the bar. The bar is complete with sun-deck and panoramic views of the rift valley.

Activities
- Ethno-botanical walks with knowledgeable and informative local Maasai, for any duration from one hour to one day. Visit homes and ‘bomas’ (homesteads) of the local Iraqw and Mbulu tribes, the river gorge and learn firsthand about local flora and fauna.
- Horse riding - 1 hour up to 4 days (including fly camps)
- Mountain biking (half day trips)
- Trekking: One to three days (with support vehicle or trekking just with the Maasai and donkeys) including unusual treks to Mt. Losimingori, the Crater Highlands & Mt. Makarot, Lake Eyasi, Empakaai Crater and Olmoti.
- Fly camping in forests on special request
