Karama Lodge & SPA is an eco-friendly lodge located in Arusha, Tanzania and is the perfect home base for a Tanzania Safari or a restful night's sleep before climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. Karama Lodge & SPA is a unique lodge with a rustic, yet comfortable, ambience providing a personalized service in a relaxing atmosphere. It is a peaceful secluded respite where you can enjoy the beauty around you to the sounds of the surrounding forest. Accommodation The lodge consists of twenty-two unique en-suite cabins on stilts to ensure privacy and spectacular views of the landscape below and beyond. They are designed using a natural design constructed with local materials; the cabins allow close proximity to the surrounding forest flora and fauna. Hot showers are available 24 hours a day and every cabin is equipped with a mosquito net. Each cabin has its own wooden balcony with comfortable chairs where you can relax and admire the spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Meru, the Maasai steppes beyond, and the surrounding lush vegetation and birdlife. There is a honeymoon suite that provides all the pampering a couple would require. Karama Lodge & SPA also offers:
Karama Lodge restaurant has a stunning view of Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru. Meals can be enjoyed in the semi-indoor dining area or outdoors in the surrounding gardens. All meals are prepared using fresh produce. There is plenty of tender meat, fresh fish and juicy chicken from the grill and plenty of healthy vegetarian options. Special dietary needs, such as vegans and vegetarians, are catered for. Bar The bar is open all day for a cool beer, a glass of wine, spirits, or a healthy fresh fruit juice. Sit on the spacious open deck and enjoy your drink while taking in breath-taking views of Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Meru and the wooded valleys below. A refreshing breeze will keep you cool even during the hot summer months. Health Karama Lodge & SPA has organized holistic and healing days for massage workshops, reiki courses, introductions on various themes (healthy living, healthy food and reflexology), yoga-classes, sweat tent.
Activities Karama lodge has a selection of activities that you can choose from: Bird watching: The garden of Karama Lodge & SPA is home to many different species of birds. Equipped with binoculars and bird books, you can watch them while walking in the garden, sitting on the veranda of your cabin or from the main deck. Exploring the area: Just above 'Karama' is Suye Hill Forest Reserve; a protected area of indigenous forest. Take a short walk to the top of Suye Hill through the forest reserve and further down to Kimandolu village, looking for birds in their natural environment and monkeys leaping from tree to tree. 'Karama' actively assists in the protection of this forest reserve ensuring that this natural beauty will be around for years to come. Daytrip to the Waterfall: Their professional guide who is very knowledgeable about flora and fauna in Tanzania will lead you to a beautiful waterfall in Olgilai, about 15 km from the lodge. You will walk through local villages and beautiful surroundings. At the waterfall you can enjoy a picnic lunch from the Karama kitchen, have a shower or go for a swim. A relaxing massage: After a safari, a mountain climb, a tiring flight or just for your own relaxation, the professional masseuse will treat you to an unwinding massage. Visit to the Arusha Children's Trust Community Project: If you book a room in Karama Lodge, a percentage goes to the Arusha Children's Trust; a recognized NGO (non-government organization) registered in Tanzania and Guernsey (UK). The trust aims to help children in the Arusha and Rift Valley regions of Northern Tanzania primarily with education, health and environmental awareness. Flora and Fauna Every effort is made to protect the local flora and fauna, therefore Karama is still home to a wide variety of forest wildlife, beautiful tropical birds, medicinal plants, flowers and indigenous trees. Augur buzzards swoop above this tranquil setting while colorful butterflies dance in the sunlight. Forest birds are attracted to the feeding tables, bush babies and vervet monkeys play in the trees. Sometimes even a dik-dik can be seen.
