Based on the itinerary you choose or tailor to suit you, your itinerary can start in Arusha and end in Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar or vice versa, thus the inbound and outbound flights can be booked on this basis. Some of our holiday packages offer both Safari and Zanzibar, which means that your point of arrival (inbound) is Arusha and your point of Departure (outbound) is Zanzibar. An ‘open jaw’ ticket would suit your needs. (Ask your local travel agent)

The information below will help you book the right flights for your trip to East Africa. The package you choose and the proper selection of inbound and outbound flights you choose can make it cheaper for you. For example: if you would like to visit the Northern Circuit (see below), then the best inbound flight should arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Whereas, if you wanted to visit the Southern Circuit and Swahili Coast (see below), then the best inbound flight would be one that arrives in Dar es Salaam (DAR)  

Northern Circuit: - includes Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara, Tarangire national parks, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Lake Eyasi & Natron
Western Circuit: -  (accessible through the northern circuit): - includes Gombe streams, Mahale Mountains, Katavi, Rubondo Island, Lakes Victoria & Tanganyika
Southern Circuit: - includes Selous, Ruaha, Mikumi, Kitulo, Swahili coast.
Swahili Coast: - Saadani, Dar es Salaam, Bagamoyo, Udzungwa & Usambara mountains

Nairobi to Arusha Transfers

There are internal flights like Precision Air that can transfer you from Nairobi to any of the major towns in Tanzania (including Zanzibar). Kenya Airways and Regional Air (from Wilson Airport) leave Nairobi at 0800hrs, 1000hrs, 1300hrs, and 1800hrs.
Note: -Additional visa costs for leaving the international airport (20 US$ for a day, 50 US$ for a 4 weeks visa) - the fees are subject to change without notice.

Private road transfer Nairobi Airport to Arusha Town can be arranged if planned in advance for a fee.

Scheduled Shuttle buses from Nairobi Airport or City Hotels to Arusha Town depart daily. The departure times are fixed to 0800hrs a.m. and 1400 hrs p.m.

Note: - If your point of arrival is Nairobi and the flight arrives late you can overnight in a hotel in Nairobi. (We can book the accommodation for you on request) and also book the connection of choice for the following day.

Transfers from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar

Assuming that you arrive in Dar es Salaam and would like to travel to Zanzibar, then there are cheap internal flights between Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar (Flying time: 20 minutes).
There is a daily ferry boat service that plies between Dar es Salaam harbour and Zanzibar.

Flights from Dar to Arusha

There are several daily flights from Dar to Arusha offered by Zanair, Precision, etc. (We can arrange these for you if they are not included in your package for an additional fee).

Please note: - that most internal flights are booked well in advance. We would therefore advise you to book these tickets in advance, especially during high season. If you miss a direct flight between Nairobi and Zanzibar (or vice versa), we would have to book you via Dar Es Salaam, Mombasa or Kilimanjaro, then a connecting flight to Zanzibar. This would mean that you incur the cost of two internal flights.

Visa and Entry Requirements for Tanzania

Visas are required by most travelers to Tanzania. Visas are available at your local Tanzanian Embassy. Costs vary from country to country. Visas are valid for 6 months. It is possible, however, to obtain a tourist's visa for a single entry at any ONE of the FOUR MAIN ENTRIES into Tanzania -subject to the fulfillment of all immigration and health requirements-, for those who could NOT apply for visa from Tanzania Mission abroad. These are:

   1. Dar-es-Salaam International Airport
   2. Zanzibar International Airport
   3. Kilimanjaro International Airport
   4. Namanga Entry Point (Tanzania-Kenya boarder point).

Payment, at all these points, is in US Dollars or its equivalent in Sterling. For all other entry points in Tanzania, visitors must hold valid visa prior to approaching those entry points in Tanzania. However, in order to avoid unnecessary delays, those who proceed to Tanzania from a country where there IS a Tanzania Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office are strongly advised to obtain their entry visa prior to departure to Tanzania.
